Safe Zone Helmet Mirror

Product Description

The Safe Zone Helmet Mirror was invented by Brett Flemming, toolmaker, master bicycle mechanic and owner of Efficient Velo Tools LLC (EVT). Brett founded EVT in 1999 with the mission of building better bike tools. One day, running a lathe in his machine shop, he came to a realization about the “Loc-Line ®” hose directing coolant on his lathe. The hose exhibited characteristics ideally suited as a design element in the perfect bicycle helmet mirror… it bent easily and stayed put! The fact that it is manufactured within an hour’s ride of his home is a very happy coincidence.

As a lifelong disciple of helmet mounted mirrors, Brett was frustrated with the small fields of view, failing adhesives, flimsy plastic, and bouncy wires of existing mirror designs. He incorporated the “Loc-Line ®” hose elements, a very large mirror, and a mounting system superior to competing products to create the first mirror to meet his personal standards.

Brett used the mirror on his commute to his “day job” as General Service Manager of the Bike Gallery in Portland, Oregon. Eventually Bike Gallery’s head buyer noticed the mirror and said “Why don’t you make some of those for us, and we will sell them?” The rest is history!

In the toolmaker’s own words: “Originally, I machined the base plate in my shop and assembled the mirror with nuts and bolts. That resulted in a mirror that was as rugged and sturdy as I demanded, but it was too much work, and, frankly just homemade in appearance.” Keeping true to his domestic manufacturing values, he sought out Pillar Plastics, a local family-owned plastic manufacturer. “To improve mount-ability, ease of assembly, and appearance, I had an injection mold built just up the road. You are buying the highest quality helmet mirror made, with the best after the sale support available. Buy with confidence, and most importantly, ride safely.”

Weight including 3 straps is 1.5 ounces.

Orders are shipped from Portland, Oregon and are usually sent within 1 to 2 business days of receiving the order. UPS takes another 5 to 7 business days to reach some areas of the U.S., depending on weather. You should receive an automatic shipment confirmation email with the tracking number once your item ships. If you’re concerned about receiving your order by a particular date, please contact us via email and we can help out.

Note regarding international shipping: We aim to ship all orders placed before 3 p.m. PT (Monday-Friday) on the same day, but it can take 1 to 2 business days to ship an order. The default shipping charge for international orders is “First Class Mail International,” which can vary in delivery time. Typically, international orders are received in a timely fashion, but we have learned from experience that transit times for non-US orders can be very unpredictable. To geographically close countries, delivery times are generally up to 4-5 business days but can take a lot longer – we don’t know why. Countries farther afield generally take longer but the spread of transit times is quite vast, for example, some parcels have taken less than a week to arrive in Australia, and others have taken a month and (rarely) longer than this. Please be advised that your mirror may take some time to be delivered before placing your order. If your order is time sensitive, please inquire with us regarding more expensive shipment options with guaranteed delivery windows of 3-5 or 6-10 days.
