Mounting Instructions

Position the Safe Zone Mirror’s mounting base on the left, forward section of your helmet. The optimal mirror placement is at least 5” from your eye.

Mount the mirror as far forward on the helmet as possible. If you feel that it is too far away once installed, links can be taken out. Additional links or any other spare parts are available directly from EVT.

Once the ideal position is decided, attach the mounting base firmly to the helmet with a velcro tie. Place the helmet on your head to see if it’s the right distance from your eye.

When the position is just right, apply plastic zip-ties to keep the position secure. Tighten until it’s snug, but not any further, to prevent damage to the helmet’s foam. Trim excess zip-tie with normal fingernail clippers for a clean cut.

To adjust the mirror for optimum view, cup the back of the mirror in one hand while bending or rotating the flexible arm as needed until you find just the right view.

Tips ‘n Tricks

The Safe Zone Mirror works best when it is positioned straight forward, up a little, with just the edge of your ear in the mirror’s reflection. Your position on the bike while riding will be different than while standing, so lean against a wall or have a friend hold your bike upright so you can make the final adjustments.

The flexible arm links are snap-fit to allow for shortening. Bend sharply to snap apart. Push together firmly to snap together.

The base’s breakaway ball joint is designed to release easily. To reattach the flexible arm to the base’s breakaway ball joint, straighten the links and with a firm grip, push the arm straight into the breakaway ball joint. This may take some force.

The Loc Line pliers are the easiest way to snap individual links together, available from Amazon here: Loc-Line Coolant Hose Assembly Pliers. You’ll need the 1/4” pliers.

Precautions

You can adjust your Safe Zone Mirror while riding, but be sure to pick a safe stretch of road and stay away from the road’s edge. We recommend you face forward, glance at the mirror, face forward while you adjust with your left hand, glance again to check, face forward to make additional adjustments, etc. Don’t focus on the mirror too long or you are likely to veer off your line. DO NOT attempt to re-attach while riding if the joint releases during adjustment. Find a safe spot to pull over, step off the roadway, remove helmet and follow instructions to re-attach.

Over-tightening of zip-ties may compromise long-term helmet integrity.

Direct impact may cause improperly fitted helmets to slip slightly.

When you are finished mounting your Safe Zone Helmet Mirror, and you find that you do not need the ‘shark tooth’ at the end of the base of the Safe Zone, please clip it off so that it doesn’t snag on material, like clothing, in the event of an accident.
