ABOUT EFFICIENT VELO TOOLS

Efficient Velo Tools was established in 1999 by Brett Flemming with a mission to support bicycle mechanics in their often challenging pursuit of hassle-free tools that work well, save time, feel good, look great and last a long time with a reasonable amount of care.

Brett started his bicycle industry career in 1979 as a mechanic at Albrecht Cycle Shop in Sioux City, Iowa. By 1998, Brett had moved west and was the General Service Manager at The Bike Gallery in Portland, Oregon. With 35 mechanics under his supervision, Brett had become a master mechanic by day and a hobby shop machinist by night. He used his metal machining and welding skills to support the bicycle service department by making shims, bushings, hard-to-find parts and his first marketed shop tool, the “Offset Velo Clamp” among other things.

Brett knew that if mechanics like himself were going to invest in bicycle tools, they must be well made, efficient, and long lasting. He decided to design and build his own tools. But why bother making any tool unless it is superior to existing products? He would not only make his own tools, he would make better tools. With this in mind in 1999, Brett became serious about his hobby and embarked on a journey to become the accomplished machinist he is today.

Today, EVT employs 6 full time employees and offers a selective line of tools used and respected by top mechanics around the world who are motivated to work more efficiently and treat their client’s property with the utmost respect. None of EVT’s tools are made offshore, rather, the skilled EVT team personally builds, fits and tests nearly every part of every tool.

Our quality tools are made by hand using “manual” machines - beautiful, magnificently built machines, some of which are 50 years old or older! A handful of our tools are subcontracted to local C.N.C. “job shops”, all within a few miles of our Washougal, Washington workshop.

The award-winning Safe Zone Mirror, a road safety tool with no equal, is manufactured at factories within an hour’s bike ride of EVT. The Safe Zone is then assembled, packaged and shipped from our shop. Brett knows our production partners by first name, reflecting the community-based economy for which our area is famous.
