The Drift / Tapping Hammer
The Drift / Tapping Hammer is one of those tools you don’t realize you need—until you use one. We witnessed this firsthand at the recent Portland MADE Show, where this unassuming little hammer quickly became one of our best-selling tools.
Unlike a full-size shop mallet or a conventional claw hammer, this is a compact precision tapping hammer designed for controlled strikes, subtle adjustments, and seating components without reaching for brute force.
Made from solid brass and weighing just over a pound, it gets stubborn parts moving while giving you far more control than a heavy hammer. At just 8" × ¾" × ¾", it’s compact enough to keep within arm’s reach on any workbench.
Brass is softer than the hardened steel commonly found in bicycle components such as axles, spindles, and specialized fittings. That makes the hammer itself an effective drift: you can strike directly when appropriate without putting a hardened steel hammer face against an expensive component. The result is controlled impact with less risk of scratching, marring, or deforming the parts you're working with.
Percussive maintenance has never looked this good. With its shiny golden sheen, it has the unmistakable appearance of something you might have just walked out of Fort Knox with!
